Summary[edit]

Description
English: County Oak Retail Park A large retail park in the north of Crawley. Why County Oak? Before the 1974 local government reorganisation, the boundary between Surrey and Sussex crossed the Brighton Road here, and an old oak tree stood at the point, in what was once heathland. Because of its situation on the border, it was known as the County Oak, and was marked as such on maps. Whilst the tree is long gone, its name survives, even though the county boundary has now moved north of Gatwick Airport.
