| Description |
English: Cresswell Tower Taken with telephoto lens from Village Store forecourt.
A rectangular three storey tower of the late 14th or 15th C. A barrel vaulted ground floor with walls15m thick, and a spiral stair by the entrance. Inside are contemporary fireplaces, mural recesses and garderobes. There is a square turret above the stairs. A worn inscription on the turret window reads "William Creswell, brave hero", and referred to a man who died in 1698. The embattled parapet is of the 18th C when the tower was a garden feature of a nearby Hall, which was pulled down in 1937. |
