  • Significance: It is significant as an outstanding example of early 19th century masonry arch construction, and for its association with the Allgeheny Portage Railroad, which the bridge originally carried across the Bens Creek. The Allegheny Portage Railroad, a system of rail lines and inclined planes completed in 1834, was designed to carry boats from the Pennsylvania Main Line Canal across the Allegheny Mountains..
