Summary[edit]

Description
English: Statue of father Pieter-Jan De Smet s.j. in his hometown Dendermonde. The statue was made after a design of Charles Auguste Fraikin (Herentals 1817-Schaarbeek 1893) and was erected in 1879. In 1982 corrosion had destroyed the inner structure to such a degree that the statue fell off of its pedestal. The present statue is a faithful polyester copy of the original.
Nederlands: Standbeeld van pater Pieter-Jan De Smet s.j. in zijn geboortestad Dendermonde. Het beeld is ontworpen door Charles Auguste Fraikin (Herentals 1817-Schaarbeek 1893) en werd in 1879 onthuld. Het smeedijzeren geraamte was in 1982 zo aangetast door corrosie dat het beeld van zijn voetstuk viel. Het huidige beeld is een getrouwe polyester kopie van het origineel.
