Спроектирован на основе  грузового тепловоза ТЭЗ для вождения скорых пассажирских    поездов.    Тепловозы строились   Харьковским   тепловозостроительным    заводом    с     1957    г. Выпущено около 100 шт. Эксплуати ровались на Октябрьской, Северной, Юго-Западной,     Юго-Восточной, Львовской ж.д. Обслуживали скорые и   пассажирские   поезда   на   участке Ленинград  -  Москва,   Москва   -   Киев и    др.    Поступил    в    музей    из    депо Иваново в 1997 г.

This design was based on the class ТЕЗ diesel freight   locomotive,   and   was   intended   for express passenger trains. Around  100 such locomotives were built by the Khar'kov Diesel-locomotive-building Works from   1957-  They worked   on   the   October,    Northern,   South Western, South  Eastern and  L'vov railways. Used  in  express  service  on  the  Leningrad-Moscow    and    Moscow-Kiev    routes,    and elsewhere.   Received   by  the   museum   from     Ivanovo depot (Northern Railway) in 1997.
