| Description |
English: Dinting viaduct and Simmondley from Monk's Road. Looking over the new housing developments of Simmondley to the Dinting Viaduct (built 1845) over the valley of Glossop Brook. Pevsner, in the Derbyshire volume of The Buildings of England, says of the viaduct: "carrying the Sheffield and Manchester railway at great height. Arches spoilt by reinforcement." (The railway is now just a branch line to Glossop and Hadfield; it's not particularly clear at this distance, but the viaduct has had five additional piers inserted between the original three.) |
