The image in the upper lefthand corner was taken from the top of the Soldier's and Sailor's Memorial Arch, south of the fountain. View is looking north; Flatbush Avenue converges on the fountain on the upper left; Vanderbilt Avenue converges on the upper right. The fountain was situated in the middle of Prospect Park Plaza (Grand Army Plaza after 1926). The photographs were taken around 1900. The electric fountain was demolished in 1915 to make way for the Interborough Rapid Transit subway, which followed a route up Flatbush Avenue and under the plaza.
