Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: Falmouth Docks Station. In the 19th century, this was originally conceived as the end of the main line from London Paddington Station where people would be able to transfer to the Packet Ships for all points of the British Empire. It was completed in 1863 but by then the Packet Ships had gone and four years later most mainline trains terminated at Penzance leaving this as the terminus of a branch line. The original grand station building and has long since gone leaving just a single platform covered by a modern roof. Beyond the station is a ship in dry dock for a refit at Falmouth Docks. Most people use Falmouth Town station 164566 about 800 metres back up the line, but this station is useful for tourists who want to visit Pendennis Castle. |
