Description

Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden "Palm Jungle" is a forest of naturalized Alexandra palms Archontophoenix alexandrae Origin: North Queensland, Australia Some info from a descriptive sign: These palms were introduced to Hawaii over 100 years ago. They have escaped cultivation and have spread throughout the East Hawaii coast. Common names used are Hilo palm and King palm. You will see many have sprouted roots from the trunk. This spectacular occurence happens in very humid growing conditions. THese very specialized roots are known as Adventitious roots.
