English: Font, The Cathedral Church of St Mary the Virgin, Blackburn "The font was given by Bishop Charles Claxton and Mrs Claxton in memory of their parents. It is made in the form of an egg cup as a symbol of new life, and on its cover is a sculpture of the Baptism of Jesus. It is through baptism that we become members of the world-wide family of the Christian Church. Baptism leads to Confirmation and so to receiving the Holy Communion" This is taken from the plaque beside the font. |
