Summary[edit]
DescriptionFrændur a Faroese Band performing at Jóansøkufestivalurin in the Marina of Tvøroyri.JPG |
English: Frændur is a Faroese band, one of the most popular bands for more than two decades. They started at young age in the 1980'ies to play music in their hometown Klaksvík, and their songs are still popular and many people in the Faroe Islands know many of the songs by heart. The three main musicians of Frændur are: Eyðun Nolsøe and his brother Rani Nolsøe and Steintór Rasmussen. All three of them write text and both Rani and Eydun compose melodies as well. There have been other musicians playing with them i.e. Hanus G. Johansen and Terji Rasmussen, but Eyðun, Rani and Steintór are the main figures of the band. This photo was taken from a distance of the stage while Frændur was performing at midnight at the Midsummer Festival, which in Faroese is called Jóansøkufestivalurin. It was held in Tvøroyri in Suðuroy on 27 June 2009. This festival had been held every second year over the past years. In the beginning it was every year. This concert was an aid concert, so the musicians played for free. The money from the concert was donated to the Saltsilo on Drelnes, which will be made into a cultural center with a concert hall.
