| Description |
English: death notice of composer Franz Lehár; on it in his handwriting (in German): If I have written music that gets through to the people, I have still pursued a completely different purpose than to offer entertainment. I wanted to conquer their hearts and penetrate their souls, and the many hundreds of letters I receive from all parts of the world prove to me that I have succeeded and that I have not worked and lived in vain. (Anton Lehár had the paragraph put in facsimile on the notice.)
Deutsch: Todesanzeige für Franz Lehár; darauf in dessen Handschrift: Wenn ich Musik geschrieben habe die ins Volk dringt so hab ich doch ganz einen andern Zweck verfolgt als Unterhaltung zu bieten. Ich wollte ihr Herz erobern in ihre Seelen dringen und die vielen hundert Zuschriften die ich aus allen Teilen der Welt erhalte, beweisen mir, dass es mir gelungen ist und dass ich nicht umsonst gearbeitet, gelebt habe. (Anton Lehár ließ den Absatz in Faksimile auf die Anzeige setzen.) |
