DescriptionGallipoli and Dardanelles Sheet 1 GSGS 2285 1-63,360 1908.jpg |
English: Topgraphical map of the Peninsula of Gallipoli and the Asiatic Shore of the Dardanelles. Scale 1/63,360 or 1 inch to 1 mile. Derived from 1:50,000 French map Carte de la Presqu'île de Gallipoli, 1854, compiled during the Crimean War. This map was used in planning for the Gallipoli Campaign and enlarged by the Survey of Egypt in March 1915 to to produce a three sheet 1:40,000 map of the Gallipoli Peninsula. This copy is marked (faint) with 5 of the beaches, 'S', 'V', 'W', 'X' and 'Y' on the tip of the peninsula, used by the British 29th Division in April 1915 for the Helles landing. |
