English: Hawkshaw Gill Wood The wood consists largely of conifer plantations, but there has been woodland on this site for hundreds of years. A map of 1611 shows this area as 'Greate Wood' and 'Gouthwit Wood'. Perhaps future planting will help to restore the original birch and oak wood. |
