Summary[edit]
DescriptionHighgate Field - geograph.org.uk - 514096.jpg |
English: Highgate Field The long-gone house called Highgate once stood on this land. What stones were left from the ruin were put to other uses. The other side of the hill lies Melin-y-Coed (Mill in the Trees), once called Pentref y Coed (Village of the trees), according to the survey carried out in 1800 for a map published some 35 or so years later. The large patch of trees left of the centre of the skyline lies along and below Nant y Goron. To the right of those trees, the top field is called Maes Dwalad (Cadwaladr's Field). The trees to the right of Maes Dwalad obscure the ruin of Fronwen. To the left of that, the open field is called Y Ffrith (The Sheepwalk), and a path along here used to take the families of Fronwen and homes further afield through the woods to the right of Y Ffrith, and thence to a very steep slope which led to the Nant y Rhiw chapel. The school children would then clean their boots in the stream at the bottom of the hill before continuing up the next hill to Nant y Rhiw School. Almost at the extreme right of the skyline is the mast near Nant y Rhiw. |
