English: Title page from Hippocrates chymicus : discovering the ancient foundation of the late viperine salt with his Clavis thereunto annexed by Otto Tachenius (died circa 1670). London : Printed and are to be sold by N. Crouch, 1677. As in other branches of alchemy, new ideas were attributed to great figures of the past, in this case the ancient physician Hippocrates. Chemical medicine linked metallurgy (top in this image) to the apothecary shop (bottom).
