Notes
  • Significance: Built in 1832 by Fredrick Baldwin, one of Hudson's earliest merchants. He had New England journeymen, imported to work on Western Reserve Academy buildings, construct his house of black walnut. On December 17, 1841, his daughter Caroline Baldwin Babcock was born. In 1920 she bequeathed $75,000 to starting the library and historical society. The purpose for which this society is formed is to receive gifts, devises of trust funds, to erect, establish and maintain a free circulating library for the use and benefit of the inhabitants of Hudson, Ohio, to collect, acquire, own, hold, and preserve records, facts, objects, articles, and things of historical interest and to do all acts and things incident to or convenient in the carrying out of forgoing purpose.
