The Marquesses of Lansdowne, London and Bowood, Wiltshire, by 1866; sold by Lord Landsown in January 1967 to (Thos. Agnew & Sons, London);[1] purchased January 1967 by NGA.

  • Following the discovery of a watercolour copy in the Snouck van Loosen Foundation at Enkhuizen, The Netherlands, the sitter has been definitively identified as Jan Jacobsz Snoeck (c.1510-85) a wealthy alderman and dijkgraaf of Gorinchem in The Netherlands (Colenbrander, op. cit.).
