Summary[edit]
DescriptionKar Sewa at Durbar Sahib (5251781780).jpg |
Kar Sewa, literally meaning voluntary service is an integral part of Sikh Religion. ‘Sarbat da Bhala’ meaning common good of all is one of the foundamental principles of the Sikhism. Sharing bread, reaching out to the poor and needy and performing voluntary service to the society are as fundamental to the faith as personal prayer, reading of scriptures and attending communal prayers. In many Gurudwars it is common to see well to do and even affluent people voluntarily performing menial tasks like taking care of the shoes of the visitors, helping in preparing the communal meals, cleaning the premises , etc. Here a devotee is sweeping and scrubbing the floor of the parikrama around the Darbar Sahib at Amritsar. |
