Summary[edit]

Description
English: Gilded silver ring with an agate intaglio showing a griffin with a spoked wheel under its right paw, a symbol of the goddess Nemesis, and a golden belt strap end from the Ödenkirche plot grave field at Keszthely-Fenékpuszta
  • Zala County, Hungary

These objects were found in Grave A of the Ödenkirche plot grave field at Keszthely-Fenékpuszta. In the 130 graves at this site, typically Germanic objects were found in addition to the characteristic objects of early Keszthely culture (6th-7th centuries). Grave A is a large, east-west oriented wooden grave chamber of a robust adult male measuring 1.88 meters (= 6' 2") tall. The grave was robbed shortly after the wooden structure collapsed, but a few important objects including this ring and belt strap end survived.

  • Photographed while on display from 22 August 2008 to 11 January 2009 in the exhibition "Die Langobarden. Das Ende der Völkerwanderung" at the Rheinisches LandesMuseum Bonn. On loan from the Balatoni Múzeum Keszthely.
  • Komitat Zala, Ungarn
