Eléments du hall Jugendstil du palais de justice de Littenstrasse. The former building complex of Amtsgericht (Local Court) I and Landgericht (Regional Court) I on Littenstraße, corner of Grunerstraße (on the left) in Berlin-Mitte, now seat of the civil jurisdiction of the Landgericht Berlin. The building was constructed 1896-1904 by Otto Schmalz to earlier designs by Paul Thoemer and Rudolf Mönnich. It belonged to a group of "justice palaces" built in Berlin during the German Empire. At the time of its erection, it was in fact Berlin's second largest building after the City Palace. The staircase hall by Otto Schmalz is famous and was often imitated. From 1968 to 1969, the Amtsgericht wing was demolished to make room for a broadening of Grunerstraße.
