DescriptionMerlons at Sé de Évora - Apr 2011.jpg | Pandy first went to Evora, a beautifully preserved Medieval town in the heart of the Alentejo region. Here he is looking out from the crenelated roof line of the 13th century Se (Cathedral) of Evora, which provided him with a great view of the city's graceful aqueduct, its Medieval center as well as the well-preserved 1st century AD Roman temple. While local legend claims that the temple was built to Diana (Chaste goddess of the hunt), it didn't take Pandy too much poking around to discover that the design more closely resembled a typical Temple to the Divine Agustus. Many such temples were built to little Gaius Octavius Thurinus, who later took his adopted name of Julius to become Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus, after his famous general uncle and adopted father, Gaius Julius Ceasar (the "original Ceasar"). Before he died, Gaius had himself declared a god and ordered temples built to his honor all over the Roman empire. | ||
