Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: Montagu salvage cables In 1906 the battleship HMS Montagu sailed into Lundy Island when returning from exercises. It was impossible to refloat the ship so she had to be salvaged. There are no traces left of the ship, but on the island there are the Montagu steps, built to facilitate the salvage, and nearby there are great rusting cables festooned down the cliff. This photo is taken looking down the cliff, showing some of the rusting cables. |
