| Description |
Español: Construido en 1872, durante un largo período fue utilizado como muelle de carga. Desde ahí era embarcado el salitre en lanchones, los cuales eran los encargados de transportar hasta los barcos que permanecían a la gira en la bahía. También se realizaba la descarga de insumos, mercadería y pasajeros que llegaban hasta la ciudad. También perteneció a la empresa Ferrocarriles Antofagasta-Bolivia. En la actualidad espera la materialización del proyecto –presentado por el Profo Gastronómico- que lo transformará en un atractivo turístico con varios restoranes estilo palafitos.
Su primer nombre fue muelle salitrero Melbourne e Clark. En 1855 se denominó muelle oficial de la Compañía de Salitres y Ferrocarriles de Antofagasta. El Muelle Histórico es paseo obligado, pero su ingreso a la historia está enmarcado por el desembarco de las tropas chilenas, al mando del coronel Emilio Sotomayor el 14 de febrero de 1879, hito que marcó el inicio de la Guerra del Pacífico. En la actualidad mantiene la totalidad de sus instalaciones originales. Allí descansan como mudo testigos de la historias estructuras de fierro y piso de pino oregón.
