A frieze on the north exposure of the building is inscribed with:
- THIS BUILDING HOLDS IN TRUST THE RECORDS
- OF OUR NATIONAL LIFE AND SYMBOLIZES OUR FAITH IN THE
- PERMANENCY OF OUR NATIONAL INSTITUTIONS
Interesting to me, was the fact all parties had to pass through metal detector screens before entering the building that holds treasured documents of the United States. No such screening was performed at the nearby Smithsonian Institute.
