[edit] Summary
A diagram of the "New Jerusalem" sacred geometry structure of quasi-mystical author John Michell. Created from scratch by User:AnonMoos based on the abstract geometric relationships explained in the book "City of Revelation" ISBN 0-345-23607-6 (but is not a direct copy of any particular diagram in the book).
Color code:
- Grey
- The twelve moon-diameter circles ("pearls" or "gates"). Relative linear size 3.
- Green
- The basic earth-diameter circle (its circumference is tangent to the circumferences of the twelve circles). Relative linear size 11.
- Brown
- The square which encloses the earth-diameter circle, and also the circle which goes through the centers of the twelve circles. This square and circle have the same approximate perimeter length (i.e. an inexact "squaring of the circle"). Four of the small circles have circumferences tangent to the perimeter of the square, while the other eight small circles are positioned so that the intersections of the brown circle and square are on the circumference of a small circle.
- Yellow
- A heptagram (seven-pointed star) enclosed within the brown circle. Due to various coincidences (such as that the angle "B" defined in the PostScript code below, 25.8395856°, is almost the same as 360°/14 or 25.7142857°), a heptagram drawn between centers of the small circles and points where the circumferences of the small circles intersect the brown circle is a fairly close approximation to a regular heptagram.
- Black
- Other construction lines, including a slightly-irregular dodecagon which encloses the whole figure. The squares enclosing the four central small circles are not shown, since they clutter the diagram (and give the impression that the other eight small circles might be tangent to such squares, which they aren't). However, the interrupted black diagonal line segments each continue a line drawn from the center of the whole diagram to an inner vertex of such a square.
Many other construction lines could be included, such as four evenly spaced equilateral triangles surrounding the innermost (black) circle (instead of just two), four 7/2 heptagrams (instead of just one), four 7/3 heptagrams, a large circle enclosing the twelve small circles (i.e. inscribed within the outer dodecagon), two perpendicular intersecting vesica piscis diagrams enclosing the brown circle and square, or the radial black line segments could be extended to the center of the diagram, etc. etc.
