Summary[edit]
DescriptionNew bridge for the Thames and Severn Canal - geograph.org.uk - 1177710.jpg |
English: New bridge for the Thames & Severn Canal When the Cricklade bypass was being constructed it was planned to cross the currently disused line of the Thames and Severn canal almost on the level. This would have produced a major obstacle to the currently restoration project for the canal. After considerable campaigning and public pressure the department for roads finally relented and incorporated this bridge into the road scheme at the last minute. Although the headroom may appear rather low, the canal will eventually have to use locks to drop the water level down under the road - not an ideal situation but a necessary compromise with the inevitable road builders. |
