Description Silver Springs, Florida: Silver River: Rhesus macaque/monkey. They were released in the area in the 1930s to bolster tourism. There were enough to form a breeding population, and they've been in the area ever since. I've heard that some have migrated north over the years and have been seen as far away as Jacksonville
