| Description |
English: Old pier, Toraigh/Tory. The old pier, Tau cross and part of West Town, Tory. This is a community that would not die. For years the government encouraged evacuation of this tiny sliver of granite out in the Atlantic, but the locals held firm. Their language is a form of Irish that has close links with Hebridean Gaelic.
A remarkable survivor. There are no islands in Scotland this small and remote with villages on. |
