| Description |
English: Parasol mushroom by a hedgerow. A golf ball-sized cap on a 10cm stem. Just a single instance of this was seen along a footpath. Macrolepiota procera.
A creamy white fungus with scaly cap. Seen here at the spherical stage of its development. The cap will eventually expand and flatten to form a parasol shape. The diagnostic clue is whether it has a ring around the stem (stipe) which can be moved up & down. As this example has not yet opened up, the ring is probably hidden. Thanks to the two moderators who helped with identification. Compare to this specimen which has opened further 225856, and this one which is fully opened 584138 |
