                             ISTORICUL BISERICII

Parohia Poroina Mare din localitatea Poroina Mare judetul Mehedinti este situata la o departare de 40 de kilometri de Drobeta Turnu Severin,17 kilometri de gara Tamna si este alcatuita din satele Sipote si Poroina. Inainte de anul 1700 comuna se numea Gangiova Mare si a luat numele de Poroina de la cei 4 frati Nedelcu,Nicolicea,Dumitru si Ionita Poroineanu care au cumparat intreaga mosie de la Deatco Armasul capitanul lui Mihai Viteazul . Aceasta Sfanta si Dumnezeiasca Biserica intru care se cinsteste Sfantul Ierarh Nicolae si Sfintii Apostoli Petru si Pavel a fost construita intre ani 1895-1905 pe locul celei vechi de catre vrednicul de pomenire preot Ion Marghescu si sfintita in anul 1906 de catre P.S.Episcop al eparhiei Ramnicului si Noului Severin Atanasie Mironescu . Dupa marturia d-lui Ion Parsan tatal parintelui C-tin Parsan, cel mai vechi preot al bisericii din Poroina Mare a fost preotul Nicola(e)Camenita fiul lui Barbu Camenita dupa unii din Serbia dupa altii din Polonia
