Summary[edit]

Description
English: Pathway to Dunstanburgh Castle, Northumberland. Dunstanburgh Castle dates from the 14th century and at one time rated as one of the largest, grandest castles in the North of England. The first building took place under Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, but at the end of the 14th century the castle passed to John of Gaunt, who carried out substantial alterations. This image was taken showing the path from the carpark near the Golf Club to the Castle, and emphasises what a good position the castle was in for defence, with all round observation. The castle itself is in gridsquare NU2521.
