Description
English: Phillipsite-K (FOV 3.5 x 2.3 mm)
Locality: Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry; Carrière Mont Saint-Hilaire), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada
Found July 1997. Optical ID by WH (on another specimen). MOB coll.
The phillipsite from the Poudrette pegmatite contact zone is probably “-K” since that is the only variety listed by Horvath (Lapis, Rivista 2000) for this environment. (See child "photo" for optics.)
These phillipsite balls are superficially similar to gobbinsite balls from the same environment. But the individual phillipsite xls clearly have squarish cross-sections. This type of phillipsite was associated with faujasite-Na and may be an indicator for the latter. (As far as I know, faujasite was found only once at MSH.) The diaphanous white rosettes are probably gmelinite-Na (but chabazite can look similar in this environment).
