Notes Controversia por un 'goya' de juventud El País, 27 de diciembre de 2010. Arturo Ansón Navarro declaró: "No tengo dudas con esta Piedad. Llevo más de 30 años en la investigación sobre la pintura aragonesa y española del siglo XVIII. Dediqué mi tesis doctoral al pintor José Luzán, primer maestro de Goya. Después he sido comisario de dos exposiciones monográficas, con catálogos de referencia, dedicadas a Francisco Bayeu, cuñado y segundo maestro de Goya, y en estos momentos estoy terminando de redactar un libro monográfico sobre los Bayeu". La trayectoria del cuadro está, según el artículo citado, "perfectamente documentada", y Ansón Navarro "cree que siempre estuvo en Zaragoza" y añade "Goya pintaría esta obra devocional para un particular zaragozano. Sabemos que a medidos del siglo XX pertenecía a un canónigo del Cabildo de Zaragoza, y que fue comprado por un importante coleccionista zaragozano, que tenía desde obras de artesanía popular hasta pinturas y grabados. Al fallecer hace pocos años este señor, sus herederas se repartieron su gran colección, y una de esas herederas fue quien en 2008 vendió el cuadro al actual propietario, que es de Barcelona". Ismael Gutiérrez Pastor, profesor de la Autónoma, no alberga ninguna duda sobre la autoría de Goya.
