Description
English: Plymouth: Drake’s Island Looking east from Mount Edgcumbe Country Park with the tower on Mount Batten, centre left, beyond. Drake’s Island used to be a state prison. In 1548 it was fortified and in the process the medieval chapel dedicated to St Nicholas, after whom the island was once named, was demolished
