Description
English: Göcek, previously named “Kalimche” in the antiquity, was conveniently located between Telmessos (today Fethiye) and Kaunos (today Dalyan). According to the legends, it is in the Göcek area that Ikarus felt in the sea after his famous flight, trying to escape from the tower where he was imprisonned.

Göcek would have remained a sleepy Anatolian town if a group of artists and poets, led by Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu and Halikarnas`s Fisherman, had not decided to cruise along Turkish Turquoise Coast, in what was later called a “Blue Voyage”... After this trip, the bays and islands near Göcek became famous, and this destination became more and more popular amongst yachtsmen.

Göcek was then used during the Ottoman period as a harbour for the ships loading chrome ore collected from the mines in the mountains nearby. That area where washing, elimination and loading took place has been announced as Tourism Establishment Area and when Enternasyonal Tourism Investments Inc. which is a subsidiary of Yapı Kredi Bank has founded Port Göcek by becoming the preferred bidder, a page in Göcek`s history has been definitely turned. The ugly, post-industrial time buildings and area were turned into a modern and beautiful marina, offering the highest standards to the yachts and their owners, but also totally preserving the environment.

Port Göcek, managed in association with Camper and Nicholsons Marinas Ltd, started its operation in 1999 and is built with floating pontoons, thus ensuring a perfect water circulation and a minimum impact on the shoreline. The breakwater is also a floating one, the result of high-tech researchs from the Canadian company Technomarine. This floating “wave breaker” has been calculated to stand wind forces up to 120 km/h. when the average is only 40 km/h.
