Description

Cinq poteaux à tête animale ont été trouvés dans la tombe d'Oseberg.

Chaque animal a la gueule béante et la surface est recouverte d'animaux entrelacés. Ces poteaux pourraient avoir une fonction religieuse. Leur qualité artistique et technique traduit la maîtrise atteinte par les sculpteurs vikings.


Le bateau d'Oseberg, mis au jour en 1904, a été construit entre 815 et 820 et a été utilisé comme bateau funéraire pour une femme de haut rang qui est morte en 834. Le corps se trouvait dans une chambre funéraire en bois placée sur le pont. Autour du corps ont été découverts de nombreux objets en bois, cuir et textiles.

Le musée présente trois bateaux vikings, très bien conservés, ainsi que des objets, qui ont été découverts dans trois tertres funéraires près du fjord d'Oslo. la figure animale a été utilisée comme un bélier pour pousser les gens dans l'eau.
