English: Illustration of the en:Poynting-Robertson effect. Light from the sun S impinges on a particle (velocity v), thermal radiation leaves the particle.

(a) For an observer moving with the particle, sunlight seems to impinge from a direction slighly against the direction of motion due to aberration.

(b) For a stationary observer, thermal radiation is emitted more strongly in forward direction due to the Doppler effect and aberration.

The drawing strongly exaggerates the effect.

(a) Für einen mit dem Teilchen bewegten Beobachter scheint das Sonnenlicht aus einer Richtung schräg von vorne zu kommen.

(b) Für einen ruhenden Beobachter wird vom Teilchen mehr Wärmestrahlung nach vorne als nach hinten abgegeben.

Der Effekt ist stark übertrieben dargestellt.
