Summary[edit]

Description
English: Queensbury, Yorkshire. A Yorkshire Rider double-decker neatly obscures the 'Half Way House' public house behind it, which recalls Queensbury's situation as just half way between Halifax and Bradford. In the days of electric trams, trams from both Halifax and Bradford ran to the centre of Queensbury, but no through service could be provided, as different track gauges were used by the two large towns, 3 foot 6 inches in Halifax and 4 foot in Bradford. I well recall the exhilarating grind up from the centre of Bradford on the open balcony of the tram, with speeds on the return journey often well above the permitted 30 m.p.h. The Halifax cars lasted only until 1936, but those from Bradford soldiered on until 1950: I. for one, was sorry to see them go: the buses were efficient, but much less fun!
