Río Sil, Montefurado, Quiroga

Túnel romano por el que atraviesa el río Sil se construyó en el siglo II, en los tiempos del Emperador Trajano, para desviar el cauce del río, y poder extraer el oro que este arrastraba lavando el lodo de la antigua cuenca. Tiene unos 400 m. de largo por 19 de ancho y una altura media de 17 m. Una difícil obra de ingeniería para la época. Se dice que los romanos talaron el bosque de encinos que había en un pueblo cercano que todavía conserva el topónimo de Enciñeira para romper la roca a fuego. Estos romanos estaban acampados en un pueblo que se llama Sesmil, el nombre viene de la legion romana por lo de Seismil que era una agrupación de gurreros. El túnel de Montefurado está apenas a cien metros de la carretera nacional 120, hay un área de descanso que permite detenerse y ver el túnel.
