Stema comunei Brateiu, potrivit anexei nr. 1.3, se compune dintr-un scut triunghiular cu marginile rotunjite, tăiat. În partea superioară, în câmp roşu, se află o biserică fortificată de argint, cu un turn terminat cu acoperiş conic cu cruce deasupra. Turnul are o poartă, trei ferestre crenelate, deasupra un ceas şi sus sub acoperiş o galerie de strajă. Nava bisericii supraînălţată (corpul propriu-zis) are o uşă şi trei ferestre negre la nivelul inferior, cinci ferestre negre la partea superioară şi o fereastră neagră în dreptul altarului, prevăzut cu contrafort. În partea inferioară, în câmp albastru, se află o viţă-de-vie cu frunze şi ciorchini de struguri, susţinută de un arac, totul de aur. Scutul este timbrat de o coroană murală de argint cu un turn crenelat. Semnificaţiile elementelor însumate: Cetatea de argint face aluzie la biserica evanghelică în perioada goticului matur. Viţa-de-vie reprezintă una dintre ocupaţiile de bază ale locuitorilor, viticultura. Coroana murală cu un turn crenelat semnifică faptul că localitatea are rangul de comună.
