Description
Deutsch: Rapperswil (SG) : Das , Alters- und Pflegeheim Bürgerspital, vormals Heiliggeist-Spital beim Fischmarktplatz.
Mit der Stadtgründung (1229) wurde ein Pilgerhospiz gebaut und 1354 von Herzog Albrecht ein neues Spital, vermutlich am heutigen Standort des Pflegeheims, errichtet. 1537 wird der Spitalgeistliche auch als Pfarrer in Bollingen erwähnt. Die Ortsbürger übernahmen im 19. Jahrhundert die Rechte und Pflichten des Spitals. 1845 wurde von Felix Wilhelm Kubly ein neues Gebäude erstellt. Die Neugestaltung des Innern und eine Aussenrestaurierung erfolgten 1988; seither steht das Gebäude unter Denkmalschutz.
