Summary[edit]
DescriptionSeattle - First Avenue North from Pioneer Square circa 1919.jpg |
Description in the published source (1919): "First Avenue north from Pioneer Square". Pioneer Square, Seattle, Washington. The first block of street visible in this photo is now closed to traffic, paved with cobblestones, and functions as part of Pioneer Square Park (which in 1919 was still the tiny triangle at left in this photo). The first buildingon the right in this photo is the Pioneer Building; all of the buildings in the first block on the right (the 600 block of First Avenue) are still standing, as is the first building in the next block, but the first building seen at left is gone, replaced by a parking lot. Most of the rest of this has changed in the roughly 90 years since the picture was taken. The Pioneer Square neighborhood would generally be considered to end about 2 blocks away from the camera in this photo. |
