Summary[edit]

Description
English: Shankend Viaduct This impressive 15-arch structure is a fine example of Victorian railway engineering in the 1860s on the former Waverley Line that ran between Edinburgh and Carlisle. The Waverley route was opened in 1862 and closed in 1969, but the bridge is still maintained by BRB (Residuary) Limited. Major repairs to waterproof the deck and refurbish the arches was completed in May 2007. The hill to the left is The Pike.
