DescriptionSnow sweeper in Montreal (1904).jpg |
English: In the early days of the trams, keeping service running smoothly in winter was quite the challenge due to the many snowfalls the city experienced. A wide variety of equipment was needed to clear snow off the tracks. The most commonly used piece of equipment was the snow sweeper. Employees had to be specially trained to work these vehicles, as operating them required knowledge of special techniques. For example, for best results, the height of the brooms needed to be adjusted. Three employees worked on the sweepers: the motorman, the conductor and the operator. |
