Summary[edit]

Description

Once built of wood and burned down in the Great Fire of 1666, the cathedral was rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren in the current form. While the domed roof is a familiar sight both in places further south (like Italy) and in North America, it is rare in England.

Wren himself is buried here alongside some of England's key monarchs of the past.

The photo of this cathedral defiantly standing in the ruins after the Nazi German Luftwaffe Blitzkrieg of World War II was a huge inspiration for the Allied war effort.
