Summary[edit]

Description
English: St Andrew's Church - Morley Tomb St Andrew's church can be dated back to Remegius of Hethersett, who was rector from 1316-1359 but has been much restored since. The east window, one of the largest in England, contains continental glass and was assembled from several separate windows that came from a German monastery. The large tomb in the north wall of the sanctuary (seen here), carved from red stone, is to the Morley family and dates from the 1450s. The most famous person commemorated at Hingham is Abraham Lincoln (the 16th President of the USA in 1860), who was related to a former resident of Hingham, Samuel Lincoln, born in 1622. When Samuel was 15 years old he sailed, with his family, from Ipswich for America; they settled in Hingham, Massachusetts. A bust of Abraham Lincoln, in an alcove in the north aisle, was unveiled in 1919 by the then American Ambassador the Hon. John W. Davis. The church is open every day.
