Summary[edit]

Description
English: St James' parish church, Warter, East Riding of Yorkshire, England, seen from the southwest
The church of St. James was re-built by the fifth Baron Muncaster Josslyn Francis Pennington in 1862-1864, on or near the site of a demolished Augustinian priory and convent. In 1878 Pennington sold the Warter estate to the shipping magnate Charles Wilson. The manor and rectory of Water had been given to William Pennington (b.1655) and his wife Isabel in 1678. An Irish barony with the title Lord Muncaster was created for their great grandson John Pennington in 1783 who was an early supporter of Pitt and a friend of William Wilberforce.
