Summary[edit]

Description

This airplane, appropriately named "Spriit of the Air Force" for its last mission, was the subject of thousands of hours of volunteer maintenance to make it air-worthy enough to complete its last flight, to Castle AFB. It landed, and was rolled out to the museum area. By a very large margin, this was the last B-47 flight and its unlikely there will ever be another.

The B-47 distilled everything Boeing knew about fast, heavy and high-flying bombers, and mixed it with everything the Germans had discovered about swept surfaces and transonic drag. The result was a "bomber" which could be rolled, which possessed very few straight lines, and not an inch of parallel sided, severely practical fuselage which characterized the B-29, KC-97, Model 377 Stratoliner., etc.

One Boeing characteristic of the B-47 was the wings. VERY strong, they were also surprisingly flexable The wouldk me alarm
