Description
English: Wilson family members on the lawn at Claremont, Milford Street, Ipswich, 1912

From left: Mary Wilson, her future husband Bernard Smithers, Harriet Wilson (wife of the owner of Claremont John Wilson), Ivor Wilson, Cecil Wilson, John Wilson (owner) and Enid Wilson (later wife of Rev. Christopher Compton), standing at back, Gordon and Harriet Wilson, reclining) and Charles Morris. Mrs O'Connor, motron of Ipswich Girl's Grammar School and Ellis Skyring, Police Magistrate, are seated on the portico.

Claremont was purchased by John Cecil Norman Wilson ca. 1903. He was a son of George Harrison Wilson, the founder of G. H. Wilson and Company, Ipswich. (See Fox, M, History of Queensland, v.1, pt. 2, p. 467). J. C. N. Wilson worked in the family business and died in 1922. On his death Claremont reverted back to the Wilson estate and cousin Sumner Wilson lived there until ca. 1935. (Description supplied with photograph).
